Senator Cranston:
Thank you for your letter of October 22 in behalf of Mr. F. Tate, who in an October 7 letter to you asked a of questions relating to the assassination of Swedish Minister Olof Palme.
Mr. Tate finds it conceivable that "certain 'U.S. government and agents may well have been involved in the
of Palme." I must categorically reject any such . Throughout the exhaustive Swedish investigation of the , no U.S. Government involvement in any way has been suggested.
Regarding U.S. cooperation with Swedish authorities, the , in response to specific requests from the Swedish police, on several occasions given assistance in this investigation. Tate's suggestion that the World Anti-Communist League WACL) may have been involved in the assassination strikes us unfounded. The Swedish Government has never discussed such possibility with the u.s. Government, and this theory has been alleged within the U.S. Government. We are unaware any planned or completed investigations of any kind by U.S.. to explore whether WACL OF U.S. Government were involved in the assassination.

I hope this information will be usefUL to you in replying Mr. Tate.
with best wishes,
Sincerely,
J. Edward Fox
